In spite of a brief shower the baseball game was enjoyed by all that attended. Thank you to the jazz group and the Nash car owners that added to the day.
Our Vintage Baseball Game is this Saturday at 1:30. Please come for the day and enjoy all the activities. All of the details are on the events page. The pullets (young hens) have started laying eggs. They are small, about half as big as a regular egg, but they will get larger as the hens get older. It is time to start weaning Coco, the Jersey steer. He has been getting milk replacer twice a day, but I have stopped the evening feeding. He will just get milk in the mornings for a few more weeks, and then he will just get hay and grain. Oreo, the pig, has been suffering from the heat. We hooked up a water mister to keep him cool and he is doing better. Our fall newsletter was mailed today. Please let us know if you would like a copy. We are excited to have Joan as our volunteer coordinator. Here is a little bit about her. " I love talking with people and learning from the visitors. I have always been "rooted" to the land......a Girl Scout until 18 years old, a camper, a Master Naturalist in Texas, marsh restoration worker, prescribed burn volunteer, farm interpretation in Houston. I consider farmers my heroes. If I had known at 18 years of age what I know now, I would have become a farmer....true stewards of the land. Fred and I retired to Fort Collins four years ago and stay busy with grandkids and camping. I believe a well-balanced community is run by volunteers.....be it church, Scouts, schools, museums, or nature centers. Each one of us owes time to the community. Would love to meet and work with some new potential volunteers at the Bee Family Farm. Believe volunteering should be enriching and FUN. I have fun!." - Joan Photo to come Activities for July have included a Bee Family reunion, two preschool groups, and the Commerce City Senior Center group. The animals are all doing fine, and the babies are growing. We did get a pig, whose name is Oreo. The gardan is also doing well, along with the weeds. June has been a very busy month at the farm, especially the last two weeks. On June 22 we hosted the Colorado Foundation for Agriculture, Summer Ag Institute teachers and their host families for a dinner provided by the Colorado Dairy Woman. On the 24th two different Day Camp groups visited with a total of 70 children. The 25th was Pioneer Living Day. We had a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the draft horse models, blacksmith, sheep herding, and spinning. Tomorrow, July 4, we will be in the Wellington 4th of July Parade and in the afternoon we have a booth at the Historic Avery House in Fort Collins. |
